Visual Design elements and principles describe fundamental ideas about the practice of good visual design. As William Lidwell stated in Universal

Principles of Design: The best designers sometimes disregard the principles of design.

Design Principles

Design elements are the basic units of a painting, drawing, design or other visual piece and include:

Balance

BALANCE: It is a state of equalized tension and equilibrium, which may not always be calm.

Promimity

The principle of proximity calls for related items to be grouped visually, creating less clutter and making for a more organized layout. Items unrelated to each other should be placed further apart, to emphasize their lack of relationship..

Alignment

how elements on the page line up with each other and with margins.

Repetition

use of the same colors, styles, shapes, or other elements and principles throughout a document .

Contrast

differences between items on the page.

Space

the use of emptiness to give a layout breathing room.
